Anne & Conor – Our Inspiration

Phil originally came up with the idea of cycling Mizen Head to Malin Head earlier in the year (well, originally the plan was to cycle Malin to Mizen but after some well founded advice about prevailing winds the direction was reversed!).

Phil’s mum Anne had passed away suddenly in January, and Phil had come up with the idea of the cycle as a way of raising money for charity, which Anne had always been passionate about. Anne had worked with a number of charities but most recently had worked with the breast cancer charity, The Marie Keating Foundation http://www.mariekeating.ie/

In the same week that Anne died, Rob’s wife (Jenny) 10 year old nephew Conor Curran died tragically in an accident. Both Phil’s family and Conor’s family are close so Phil & Rob decided this was a great way to remember and celebrate both Anne & Conor’s wonderful spirit for life. Throughout his life Conor had always received wonderful care in the Temple Street Children’s Hospital http://www.childrenshospital.ie/ and it was more than appropriate that they should raise funds for both charities.

We’d like to thank everyone for their wonderful support to date - we’ve been blown away by the level of support we’ve received, particularly in Anne & Conor’s home town of Blessington. Also thanks to all the accommodation providers along the route who are providing us with free accommodation so all monies raised will go directly to the charities as all costs related to the cycle are being covered.

Thanks to all our families, friends and colleagues for their help and support in raising funds which we are hoping will exceed €15,000.
